Paddington

This terrace garden is tucked away in Paddington, a Sydney suburb with a charming European look and feel. Our client was seeking to increase the usability of their outdoor space for entertaining and every day alfresco dining.

We designed a pergola to encapsulate the upper deck and to encourage the green life to grow over it to give the space a sense of warmth. The structure connects the area and provides privacy from neighbouring terrace homes.

We used Australian blue gum timber for a natural, hardwood-frame, pergola and stainless steel wire for two ornamental grapes on either side that we planted to grow over the pergola structure. Ornamental grape trees are known for their vibrant autumnal show which will create seasonal intrigue for this garden.

The clients regularly traversed the grass to reach their back deck creating a desired path. To serve the dual purpose of protecting the fresh grass and connecting the house with the back patio, we installed beautiful, blue stone steppers following the line of sight and creating a seamless transition from inside to out.

Finally, we rearranged existing planter boxes in order to visually open the space feel and to enhance sun shelter and privacy. What started as an overgrown, weed ridden lawn area with overgrown plants turned into a loveable city oasis.

Eastwood

This client had been sitting on landscaping plans since the house was built. But it was not until they were preparing to put the property on the market that these plans were realised. For clients wishing to sell their home, fresh landscaping is an excellent pre-sale investment. Real Estate site, Domain, says that whilst "it depends on the price of the property, (...) it can make a huge difference to the value of a home. Beautifully landscaped gardens are as important as beautiful interiors.”

We started this project by completing the plans for the back garden designed to be an outdoor resting area for friends and family.

We installed a floating bench seat made from composite decking boards without screws for a seamless finish and installed off-centred, tessellated concrete pads for a modern look.

We then laid striking, silver cobblestone edging onto a concrete foundation for optimal durability using white Ardex grout to create a contrasting look against the cobblestones to truly showcase their natural, stormy hue.

We stripped out the existing weed-filled grass and installed geofabric textile to prevent future weeds before laying fresh turf.

The key feature of this backyard design were large, sandstone boulders surrounded by lush, green planting drawing the eyes and ears to the tranquil babble of the water feature. This calming installation is perfect for viewing from the floating bench or the backyard patio.

As a finishing touch, we infilled with a layer of salt and pepper pebbles. Their colours served to tie in the elements they surrounded and completed the look with subtle juxtaposition.
